A sun care solution that smells delicious, is anti-aging and good for the environment
Throughout the summer, I've been on the search for the perfect sunscreen that leaves my skin feeling silky-smooth, and is also healthy and environmentally friendly. I think you should treat a sunscreen product as you would any other body lotion, and be aware of exactly what you are feeding your skin. When I found COOLA's Sport SPF 35 Citrus Mimosa sunscreen spray on sale at Chapters Indigo, I decided to give it a shot.
I did a little research, and discovered COOLA was founded by eco-entrepreneur Chris Birchby in 2002. It’s branded as a luxury organic sunscreen company and is based in San Diego. Birchby was motivated when both of his parents had melanoma scares. He wanted to find a safer sun care solution to those wanting to avoid the excessive chemicals in traditional sun care products. And he was successful—the new COOLA Plant UV line received a #1 rating by the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Database as a top sunscreen of 2012. We have a winner!
Not only does the sunscreen spray smell delicious, but it leaves my skin with the nicest sheer glow—the perfect complement to summer skin. All COOLA products offer broad-spectrum protection from both UVA & UVB rays. COOLA manufactures in small batches and, as a result, the company is able to reformulate often, taking advantage of the latest developments in sun science. Unfortunately, it isn't exactly cheap—I bought my bottle for a pricey $32, but I can honestly say that it is worth spending the extra money on.
So what else is so fabulous about this product? As it turns out, lots! Let's start with the fact that it's infused with natural plant phyto protectors, which are anti-aging antioxidants that help boost SPF protection. The formula also contains 97 percent organic inactive ingredients that are locally sourced. It is water resistant, absorbs well and is so easy to apply. The clear continuous spray makes protecting yourself on-the-go effortless.
Did I mention that it smells simply amazing? It gets better—the product is endorsed by the American Lifeguard Association and a portion of the proceeds are donated to cancer research. You won't find this product tested on animals either, as the company has partnered with PETA.
Solar powered sun care? Yes, the majority of COOLA products are crafted in limited quantities in Southern California at a solar-powered facility. All in all, I'm impressed. The future of sun care has never looked (or smelled) so sustainably luxurious!
