Lavanila: the healthy fragrance
If you’ve walked through a department store lately, you may have been overwhelmed by the perfume section. Unfortunately, the toxic effects of these fragrances can also be overwhelming. Did you know the generic term “parfum” or “fragrance” on the ingredient list can represent a complex cocktail of chemicals, and that companies are not required to provide this information to customers? In my search for a fragrance that smells nice and, more importantly, doesn’t put my body or the environment at risk, I came across Lavanila Laboratories. This perfume is about as clean and pure as they come. Offering a modern approach to the classic art of perfumery, Lavanila combines natural science with fine fragrances. Formulated without petrochemicals, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oils, silicone, synthetic dyes, sulphates, or parabens, Lavanila offers a variety of vanilla-infused fragrances and body care products that provide a healthy and lasting scent experience without the toxic and harmful ingredients. Instead of coating your skin with a host of harmful ingredients, the company claims that each spray of this perfume offers a healthy dose of 30 essential vitamins and minerals, including 19 amino acids. One less pill to swallow? I love it!
I’m hooked on this perfume and—it gets better—the price is quite reasonable, too. There are three sizes: the roller ball costs $25, the 1 oz. bottle costs $50, and the 1.7 oz. bottle costs $75. I bought mine at Sephora, but visit the Lavanila site for a full list of stores carrying the product. My personal favourites are Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Grapefruit, and my latest obsession, Vanilla Summer. For me, this perfume creates a sense of clean, pure and sensual expression—everything that the perfume industry offers, without the harmful toxins!
