Now that the Conservative government has presented what is perhaps the most anti-environment budget Canada has ever seen, there’s never been a better time to show you care. The 2012 federal budget will weaken the environmental assessment process, get rid of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy altogether and limit the role of charities with regard to advocacy and participation in the public policy process. Read why Environmental Defence says this “Big Oil budget” means big debt for the environment. Non-profit organizations work tirelessly on Canadians’ behalf to protect nature, and they can’t exist without your help. In the true spirit of Earth Month, support Environmental Defence, Ecojustice and the Pembina Institute who are active in this dialogue. Call or write to your Member of Parliament to express your concerns. Together, we can send the message that the environment matters deeply to Canadians.
This issue, read all about Earth Month, and why every day should be Earth Day. Then, in the spirit of making a difference, learn about eating locally and sustainably through Community Supported Agriculture. Finally, see how spending time in nature fosters empathy for the environment.
