With the show just around the corner, we’d like to share some of our important green initiatives: we're making every effort to minimize the Green Living Show’s impact on our environment and we hope we can inspire you to green your booth and experience at the show.
The Green Living Green Screen Process
Green Living strives to provide consumers with information about companies and organizations making the world a greener place. When choosing Green Living Show exhibitors, we apply the Green Screen process. Green Living reviews how potential exhibitors are undertaking environmental initiatives and programs, including assessing available data for results. Our Green Screen process ensures that all of the products featured at the show meet environmental performance standards and are Green Living-approved.
Carbon Offsetting & Greenhouse Gas Accounting
The Green Living Show has made every effort to reduce CO2 emissions but we have gone one step further and partnered with Carbonzero to offset the show’s emissions. Carbonzero helps organizations, governments and individuals prepare for the low carbon economy by aiding them in assessing, reporting, and reducing their emissions. Their approach, tools and services ensure that clients can cost-effectively meet their carbon auditing reduction commitments while developing the framework for implementation of reduction activities.
The 2012 Green Living Show is bullfrogpowered with 100% green electricity, which means Bullfrog Power’s generators inject renewable energy onto the grid to match the amount of electricity this event uses. Bullfrog’s green electricity comes exclusively from wind and hydro facilities that have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program. Last year, over 40,000 pounds of electronic waste were recycled by Samsung and in exchange, thousands of attendees received free admission into the Show. Bring your e-waste to the Show again this year and receive free admission — compliments of Samsung.
Valet bike parking
Green Living Show attendees who arrive on two wheels are offered free Valet Bike Parking service, courtesy of the Toronto Cyclists Union and Green Living.
The show’s banner signs are made from a biodegradable material formulated to degrade in months when buried or discarded in a landfill — without producing any toxic residue.
Badges, Badge Holders & Lanyards
Badge holders worn at the event are made from biodegradable PLA plastic (made from corn). The badge stock is made from FSC-certified paper and is printed via waterless printing methods. Lanyards are Eco-spun, a fiber made from 100% recycled soda/water bottles.
The Green Living Show volunteer t-shirts, produced by Me to We [Responsible Style], are made of 100% certified organic cotton and are certified sweatshop-free manufactured.
The facility that hosts the Green Living Show, the Direct Energy Centre, has adopted a number of innovative green projects with the goal of environmental responsibility, such as a waste diversion project and lighting retrofits.
The show’s carpeting is made from 100% recycled PET (polyethylene-terephthalate), provided by GES Canada, our official show decorator, and the benches on the Green Living Show floor are made from recycled plastics by Cascades.
The live trees featured on the show floor were donated by Canada Blooms, and will be planted after the Green Living Show is over.
Many of our special guests and exhibitors will be staying at the Delta Chelsea Hotel, the Official Hotel Partner of the Green Living Show. As Canada's largest hotel, the Delta Chelsea recognizes and respects its corporate social responsibility ensuring that its quest for sustainable solutions continues to grow and evolve. As one of 42 properties in the Delta Greens program — a comprehensive environmental sustainability program within Canada’s hospitality industry, launched in May 2011 — The Delta Chelsea is committed to increasing waste diversion and decreasing energy consumption, carbon emissions and water consumption.
Exhibitors at the Green Living Show who will be staying at the Delta Chelsea Hotel, can take advantage of the complimentary shuttle service running between the hotel and the Direct Energy Centre before show start and at show close each day — car-pooling at its best!
